First Responders

First responders, such as firefighters and paramedics, are heroes, and heroes are often faced with unique challenges. At Clarion Nous of Chapel Hill and Raleigh, NC, and Greenville and Columbia, SC, our provider, Alexis Arzuaga, is a combat veteran and former first responder, which is why he was interested in developing mental health treatments for this population’s particular needs. Our office’s techniques require little to no disclosure of incidents or events that affect clients. Instead, Alexis offers a practical and brief intervention, while leaving the door open for ongoing support thereafter.

Therapy for First Responders

Firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and other first responders deal with danger, high pressure, and ugly situations constantly. From putting out fires to witnessing or being in the middle of violence, you see things that most people can only imagine or watch from a screen. It may be your job, but that doesn’t make it any easier. And it certainly doesn’t mean that it has no lasting impact.

The truth is that every life experience has an effect on the nervous system and the brain. When not addressed, that effect lingers and can worsen. Sadly, it can eventually contribute to relationship issues, PTSD, substance abuse disorders, avoidance behaviors, anxiety, depression, and much more.

While nothing can take your experiences away, therapy can help change how they affect you. Through the Ibrido Method, which Alexis and a colleague designed specifically for individuals who have been exposed to stressful environments, we reduce the negative physical, mental, and emotional debilitating responses. The emphasis of this method is to change the distressing responses associated with repeated exposure to stressful environments or trauma.  We take privacy and disclosure very seriously. A particular appeal of the Ibrido Method for first responders is that there is no need to vocalize and disclose any specific event.

Heroes deserve to live a healthy, fulfilling life, free from trauma. At Clarion Nous of Chapel Hill and Raleigh, NC, and Greenville and Columbia, SC, we are dedicated to providing the therapy and support our first responders, including firefighters and paramedics, need.
