Psychotherapy

Evidence-Based Therapy That Moves You Forward

If you're dealing with trauma, grief, anxiety, or life transitions and prefer to use your insurance benefits—or you need ongoing therapeutic support—I offer traditional psychotherapy grounded in neuroscience and solution-focused approaches.

What makes this different from typical therapy:

  • Results-focused: Average client completes treatment in 10-14 sessions, not years
  • Neuroscience-informed: Brain-based interventions, not just talk therapy
  • Specialized expertise: Doctoral-level training in trauma, grief, and spiritual concerns
  • Flexible delivery: Available in-person (Chapel Hill, NC) or via telehealth across North Carolina and South Carolina

What We Work On

Trauma & PTSD

Post-traumatic stress from combat, critical incidents, workplace violence, relationships, childhood, accidents, or assault. Using evidence-based approaches to help your nervous system recognize that the threat is over.

Grief & Loss

Loss of loved ones, career transitions, identity shifts, or traumatic loss. Processing grief while building meaning and moving forward with life.

Anxiety & Stress

Generalized anxiety, panic attacks, hypervigilance, racing thoughts, and chronic stress. Learning to regulate your nervous system rather than just "manage" symptoms.

Spiritual Concerns

Questions of meaning, faith struggles, moral injury, and existential concerns. Drawing on my background as a hospital chaplain and training in spiritual integration.

Life Transitions

Career changes, retirement from military/first responder roles, relationship changes, major life shifts. Navigating uncertainty while maintaining stability.

My Approach

I integrate several evidence-based approaches depending on what you need:

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: We focus on what's working and how to build on it, rather than spending years analyzing what's broken.

Trauma-Focused Interventions: Approaches designed to help your brain process and integrate traumatic experiences so they stop controlling your present.

Neuroscience-Based Tools: Understanding how your brain and nervous system work helps you make sense of your symptoms and gives you concrete strategies for change.

Spiritual Integration: (when desired and prompted by the client) For clients who value faith or spirituality, I can integrate these perspectives into treatment. I have extensive training as a hospital chaplain and am well-versed in spiritual concerns in mental health.

My philosophy: You're not broken. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do—protect you. Sometimes it just needs to learn that the threat is over.

Common Questions

Do you prescribe medication?

No. I provide psychotherapy and trauma-focused interventions. If medication is needed, you will need to coordinate with your primary care provider or be referred to a psychiatrist.

How long does therapy take?

Most clients see significant improvement in 8-10 sessions. Complex trauma or multiple concerns may take longer, but my goal is always resolution, not indefinite treatment.

What if I'm not sure therapy will help?

Many of my clients felt the same way. Often, they have tried therapy before without much success. The difference is that my approach focuses on resolving underlying patterns, not just managing symptoms. Let's talk about whether this approach might work for you.

Can I use my insurance?

If I'm credentialed with your insurance, yes. If not, I can provide documentation for you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Your insurance may cover a portion of the cost.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Most of my standard psychotherapy clients use telehealth. The exception is the MR intensive program, which requires in-person sessions.

What if I need more intensive help?

If you're dealing with specific traumatic memories and want faster resolution, consider the MR Intensive. We can discuss this during your consultation.
