You Do Not Have Years to Spend In Therapy
You have been carrying this weight long enough. The nightmares. The hypervigilance. The way your body reacts before your brain catches up. The constant replaying of what happened.
Traditional trauma therapy asks you to process the same memories over and over, for months or years. It asks you to retell the same story to desensitize you to it, so that, hopefully, at some point, it clicks. Current research this is not very effective and in many ways, does not truly resolve underlying issues. My approach works differently.
The Approach
A 6-session intensive program using brain-based memory reconsolidation to resolve trauma at its source—not just manage symptoms.
This is not talk therapy. This is a targeted intervention designed to change how your brain processes and then stores traumatic memories.
Who this is for:
- Healthcare workers who experienced workplace violence
- First responders dealing with critical incidents
- Veterans carrying combat trauma
- High-performers ready to stop letting the past control the present
What makes it different:
- Fast: 6 sessions, not 6 years
- Intensive: Six sessions where we can schedule up to 2 hours each session instead of the limited option of insurance where the most we could meet is for 53 minutes. We will not be having 50-minute surface conversations.
- Neuroscience-based: Targets memory reconsolidation processes, not just coping skills
- Results-focused: Designed for resolution, not endless processing. The objective is an internal shift
How It Works (Generally)
Session 1-2: Assessment & Foundation
We identify the specific memories that are driving your symptoms and prepare your nervous system for the work ahead.
Session 3-5: Memory Reconsolidation
Using targeted interventions, we help your brain update how these memories are stored—removing the emotional charge without erasing the memory itself.
Session 6: Integration & Maintenance
We consolidate the changes and create a plan for maintaining your progress long-term.
Format: In-person only at my Chapel Hill, NC office. Time commitment: Schedule about 2 hours per session Timeline: Depending on scheduling, it can be typically completed in 2-8 weeks. Ideally, sessions are not scheduled more than a week apart, especially after the first intervention is applied.
What Clients Say
"I spent 15 years working on in traditional therapy talking about my deployment. Six sessions with Alex, and I finally feel like I can move forward." — Marine Corps veteran
"After being assaulted by a patient, I couldn't go back to work without panic attacks. This protocol helped me process what happened and return to nursing." — ER nurse
"I didn't think this level of change was possible in such a short time. I wish I'd found this approach years ago." — Firefighter/paramedic
This Protocol Is NOT For Everyone
This approach works if you:
- Are ready to do intensive work in a compressed timeframe
- Want resolution, not just symptom management
- Preferably can commit to 6 sessions within three weeks
- Are willing to momentarily engage with difficult conversation
This approach is NOT for you if:
- You prefer slow, open-ended processing
- You are looking for someone to just (only) validate your feelings
- You are unable to attend in-person sessions (during actual intervention) consistently
- You need crisis intervention, active substance abuse treatment first, and mental health stabilization,
Why This Works (The Neuroscience)
Traumatic memories get "stuck" because your brain stores them differently than normal memories. They remain active, triggering your nervous system as if the threat is still present.
Memory reconsolidation allows us to access these stored memories in a specific window where they become changeable—then update them with new information so your brain no longer treats them as active threats.
This isn't theory. Memory reconsolidation, backed by decades of neuroscience research, is considered one of the most effective mechanisms for lasting therapeutic change.
I have spent years studying this process as a doctoral student in mental health counseling, and I have integrated it with clinical protocols specifically designed for those who are truly ready to resolve the underlying issue
About me
I am not just a therapist who reads about trauma; given my various experiences, I have seen its effects.
- Marine Corps combat veteran (Iraq, 2003 and 2005)
- Law enforcement officer
- Hospital chaplain (served in trauma centers, palliative care service, intensive care units, and emergency department)
- Firefighter & EMT
- Search and Rescue Technician
I understand the specific trauma that comes from serving others in high-stakes environments. I know what it's like to carry those experiences and what it takes to resolve them. I have also seen the impact it has on those who do not tend to those memories.
Clinical Training:
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
- Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCASA)
- Doctoral Student, Clinical Mental Health Counseling
- Specialized training in neuroscience-based trauma interventions, memory reconsolidation, and heart rate variability biofeedback,
I have built my practice on one principle: help people resolve their trauma and get back to living their lives, not keep them dependent on therapy indefinitely.
Investment & Next Steps
Investment
6-Session Protocol: Price varies, but baseline starts at $3,500
Payment options: (At baseline)
- Full payment before first session (save 5%):
- Two installments: Half of the full payment during the first session and at the end of the third session
- Three installments: Payment during the first session, before the third, and at the end of the fifth session
This includes:
- Initial trauma assessment
- Intensive sessions (scheduled up to 2 hours each)
- Customized memory reconsolidation protocol
- Integration and maintenance planning
- Follow-up support during protocol
Not insurance-billable. This is a specialized intensive program outside of traditional psychotherapy.
What Happens After the Protocol?
Most clients complete the 6-session protocol and move forward without needing ongoing therapy for a particular issue.
If you want continued support:
- Maintenance sessions available at the Established Client rate ($200 session)
- Meet a few times per year as needed
- Established relationship for when life challenges arise

Common Questions
How is this different from EMDR or CPT?
While EMDR and CPT are evidence-based approaches, my approach specifically targets memory reconsolidation—the neurological mechanism that allows traumatic memories to be updated rather than just processed. It's faster and more targeted.
Do I need a PTSD diagnosis?
No. This protocol works for anyone dealing with traumatic memories that are affecting their current functioning, whether or not you meet full diagnostic criteria. We will discuss how to view the concept of trauma and its relationship to your brain.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't work?
Most of my clients have. Traditional therapy often focuses on managing symptoms and behaviors rather than resolving the underlying memory patterns. This is a different approach.
Can I do this via telehealth?
The short answer is no. The MR intensive requires in-person sessions for optimal effectiveness. Depending on your specific needs, we could have one of the follow-up sessions virtually - not recommended, though. However, if you complete the intensive and want occasional maintenance support, those sessions can be virtual.
What if I can't afford the full investment right now?
Contact me to discuss payment plans or whether standard psychotherapy (insurance-based) might be a better starting point for you.
Final Thoughts
You've Carried This Long Enough
The trauma happened in the past. Your nervous system is still responding like it's happening now.
That can change.
Not through years of talking about it. Through targeted intervention that addresses how your brain has stored these memories.
If you're ready to stop managing symptoms and start resolving the actual problem, let's talk.
